Dawlish is famously home to the stretch of railway line where Brunel's Great Western Railway runs along the sea wall -- a location that regularly makes national news in winter storms. But in summer it is a family seaside resort with a distinct personality: the town beach, the Lawn (the town's central park with the famous black swans), and the surrounding car parks generate the majority of warm-weather lockout callouts.
Dawlish Warren -- the sandy spit and nature reserve at the mouth of the Exe Estuary -- is one of the most visited day-trip destinations in Devon. The large car park at Dawlish Warren fills completely on sunny days in summer and is one of the highest-volume lockout callout spots in my east Devon coverage area.
